This year in June the Exchange Club of Falcon held its first annual golf tournament as a fund raiser for the prevention of child abuse. Over 20 sponsors and 80 golfers contributed more than $8,000 to the cause.
In October, our second annual Craft Fair will be held in cooperation with CURVES of Falcon. Our proceeds all go to suport the High Plains Helping Hands food closet. Helping Hands supports those in need in 8 different postal zones throughout eastern Colorado. Last year the effort contributed $1,000 in cash, over 800 pounds of food, and hundreds of pounds of clothing and toys just as cold weather and holiday season was arriving.
The National Exchange Club held its annual convention in July at Jacksonville, Florida. Leonore Misner, one of our CHARTER members, spent over 300 hours making a quilt based on the theme of Americanism, to be auctioned at the convention to benefit the National's Foundation for Child Abuse Prevention. The beautiful quilt sold for $3,000, and will be displayed in Texas at our CAP Center.
Next meeting we will induct more new members. They will repeat and accept our Covenant of Service, which all members hold dear. We will socialize over dinner, then get down to the serious business of the club. At upcoming meetings we will hear from speakers important to our activities, and recognize those who have contributed to the betterment of our community. We will plan our upcoming activities, and assign volunteers to those efforts.
New member orientation will be held September 8, at the Woodman Hills Recreation Center, West. Members will learn more about our club, and will be able to state in which of our activities their interests lie.
